New Dining Hall & Library
Proposal
To redevelop the Headmaster’s House and pavilion to provide enhanced:
- Catering & dining room facility
- Library
- Design & Technology room
- Staff accommodation/ security presence
Planning issue
Planning permission has been refused because the area to be redeveloped has been designated a Green Space building protection zone. This designation was imposed in March 1999 after the existing buildings and playground were built and the boundary passes through all three.
The impact on undeveloped Green Space is minimal and is more than made up by land offered in exchange on the school field which was not included in the original designation.
We have revised our plans to accommodate the officers’ objections as far as the site geography allows but we still face opposition.

I am sure that you will be particularly interested to know that:
- These proposals are solely to update and improve the educational facilities that we offer. The pupil roll has fluctuated only slightly in the last ten years and we have absolutely no ambitions to increase the size of the School.
- As the occupiers of a Grade II listed building we are extremely conscious of our responsibilities to the buildings here, old and new. The local Conservation Officer is supportive of our plans, and we firmly believe that the proposed development will add to the visual amenity of the School rather than detract from it.
- We fully understand and support the protection of open spaces in the town, and indeed our playing fields are fundamental to the education we offer. We have absolutely no intention to develop these playing fields and the new building is a redevelopment of existing buildings without detracting from the use/ appearance of the field in any way.
We would very much like your support in this matter. To this end, please either click on the Online Feedback link above, or download the Feedback Form below, and it return it to Mr Trevor Wickens, Bursar, Davenies, Beaconsfield, Bucks, HP9 1AA.
