Always staying safe on the internet
Internet safety week at Davenies gave us a good opportunity to help our parents talk to their children about safety online. Although this week's international Safer Internet Day helped to publicise the dangers of the internet, this isn't something we should just be talking about just this week, it's a topic that should run through our daily work and life.
Our Parent's Internet Talk hosted on Thursday looked at what risks the boys face by being online, what the boys are taught at school to help them understand about online safety and how parents can help their children.
Focusing on the power of an image, it was highlighted that images can be shared widely across many social media platforms and to always be aware that images don't always reflect a true story.
Advice to parents whose children are active on social media included not being afraid to talk to children about social media, encourage critical thinking regarding both images and content, ensure children always use the appropriate privacy settings and critically that they think before they post!
