Junior School Christingle Service
Parents, family members and guests joined Years 3 and 4 to reflect on the meaning of Advent at St Mary’s Church, a beautiful backdrop for the Junior School Christingle Service.
In preparation, the boys decorated oranges with red tape, sweets and a candle – each representing the world, the love and blood of Christ, God’s creations and Jesus as “The Light of the World”. The service began with festive favourite Once in Royal David’s City and a solo from Daniel Anderson-Skinner (Y4). Year 3 sang A special star by A. Hedges, and Year 4 Christmas Calypso by M. and H. Johnson; both year groups sang with delight and it was a real treat for the ears.
The Junior String Quartet indulged the Congregation in a rendition of Deck the Halls with Boughs of Holly , the Junior Handbells performed Jingle Bells (fittingly) and the Junior Choir beautifully sang Snowflakes. At the end of the service, each boy made their way out of the Church carrying a lit Christingle.
Congratulations to all the readers, performers and The Junior School Music Department on such a joyous occasion.
Monies raised through the retirement collection will benefit The Children’s Society, a charity that supports children in this country and in many others too. They provide vital help and understanding for those children who face the greatest danger or unfairness in their daily lives.
