Major success at the Stowe Relays 2019
No Stowe Corner to negotiate and travelling at marginally slower speeds than the racing cars at Silverstone, the eight swimmers representing Davenies had a great time at the 2019 Stowe Relays. Four U11s and four U13s took on Beachborough, Maidwell Hall, Lambrook, Cothill and Summerfields in a relays-only gala and came away with two gold medals, two bronze medals and a coveted Stowe swimming cap each. The U11 team of Max, Charlie, Alex and Tom did the double in spectacular fashion; both their medley and freestyle events were won by fractions of a second, registered on the impressive touch pad technology. Their times of 1:18:21 and 1:10:02 respectively (shallow end, no-dive change overs) bodes well for the IAPS finals. The U13 team of Alex, Matty , Christopher and Charlie stepped up to compete extremely well in their races; bronze medals in both their relay events were highly commendable. The icing on a jam packed, have-your-cake-and-eat-it afternoon was the all-in canon relay (the U11 quartets joining the U13 quartets); an 8 x 1 length freestyle race. A very exciting event and, not for the first time, it came right down to Tom’s final splash on the touch board to win by two-tenths of a second. They can all wear their yellow ‘leader’ caps with pride!
