Primary Schools’ Cricket Festival
Seventy primary school children descended on Davenies for our annual, colourful, 6-a-side cricket festival. The weather, whilst not helpful, did not dampen the enthusiasm of the players who happily played through two games in the mizzle, before a hot dog tea was taken early. Much to the relief of the spectators and the umpires (whose score sheets had long since disintegrated), the sun came out just in time to play a final extended game before close of play. Boundaries were short, so scores and excitement at scoring fours and sixes reached fever pitch at times; there was some excellent cricket on show from bowlers, batsmen and fielders. Particular mention of ‘that team in orange’, Long Crendon Primary School, whose boundary capers in support of their team brought a smile to all. And also to the home-grown, Grasshoppers team who enjoyed their afternoon showing just how much progress they are making with their skills and understanding of the game.
