Year 7 Bushcraft at Knebworth Woods
As part of the Year 7 Induction Programme, the whole year embarked upon a three day camping trip at the start of term accompanied by Mr Rycroft, Mr Cooke, Mr Green and Mr Sergeant. The purpose of the trip was to create a strong sense of camaraderie and togetherness, which was achieved with great success.
Led by the camp leaders from Bushcraft, the boys were pushed out of their comfort zones to learn new skills that could help them survive in the wild. They worked together in tribes to start fires, build shelters (that a number opted to sleep under on the first night!), cook on an open fire, prepare a whole salmon (a brave few even lived the mantra of ‘waste not want not’ by opting to eat the eyeballs!), emergency first aid and much more. It was wonderful to see the year group integrate the new boys and make them feel part of the team, as well as see many smiles and hear countless laughs throughout the entire trip. It was also a great chance for teachers new and old to get to know the boys in a less formal environment and see the excellent team spirit that is evident within the year group.
