Year 8 Leavers’ Programme
The Year 8 Leavers’ Programme aims to build skills, test resolve and affirm the boys’ sense of service, all whilst having fun and reflecting upon long-term friendships formed at Davenies. This year’s programme did all of this, and more.
Giving the boys some much needed down time after the intensity of recent Common Entrance exams, as well as other academically demanding senior school tests, the days offer a chance to focus on something different from everyday school life whilst preparing them for starting life at their chosen senior school on the front foot. We know that many a parent will appreciate the offering of lessons in ironing, sewing and shoe shining, as well as the much needed skill of building flat pack furniture, all of which serves to foster independence.
Throughout the busy 4 week schedule the boys have exerted enthusiasm for such activities, displaying energy and commitment to each day, some of which tested resolve, most notably their sponsored 18 mile walk, through which the boys raised over £1100 for their chosen charity; Teenage Cancer Trust. Other activities have been educational and fun; visiting RAF Northolt, enjoying a relaxing day punting in Oxford, being enlightened by external speaker Henry Fraser and treasure hunting their way around local area. Boys still have the excitement of visiting Tesla and SAP next week, as well as spending a morning in Windsor Great Park.
As their time at Davenies draws to a close, we extend our thanks to everyone who has participated in the Leavers’ Programme in any way and wish the boys much luck with their next adventures.
