Boys Together Read 256 Million Words
The Summer Term saw the culmination of an amazing year of reading at Davenies as records set in 2019-20 are surpassed.
It seems that despite all the disruption to schooling this year, the boys of Davenies have, as ever, been turning to the comfort of a book. Boys in Years 3–8 alone read more than 247,000,000 words, equating to over 10,000 books, a number which rises again when Pre-Prep are added into the mix, particularly Year 2. In total, 95 pupils became word millionaires, beating last year’s total by three! Of these, 39 are multi-millionaires, two of whom – Ryan and Ayush (pictured below with outgoing Librarian, Mrs Gamble) – became the first Davenies pupils to reach the hereto unattainable target of 10 million words! Not only is this is an astonishing amount of reading, but equally as important, both boys demonstrated great perseverance in achieving such an accomplishment.
In total (drum roll please!), Davenies boys together read and quizzed a staggering 10,956 books, surpassing the 10,000 barrier for the first time, and amassing an enormous 256 million words collaboratively – simply fantastic!
