School Furniture Finds New Home
A number of chairs were recently donated to an East African town, where money generated from their resale will go towards a small community school in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.
As part of the School-wide ‘reduce, recycle, reuse’ initiative, a number of chairs that were replaced in the School (such as the Music Room) were collected by an office solutions recycling company to be sold in Arusha, East Africa. The funds generated will go to a Tanzanian village called Tinga Tinga, where the village elders run a small community school. Unfortunately, a large portion of redundant furniture – such as our chairs – cannot be reused in the UK. As a result, rather than this furniture culminating in landfill sites, the furniture can be resold by local communities in Tanzania, enabling them to generate funds to develop their schools and community centres.
Through our commitment to help others via our own actions, we hope that this small contribution will not only help towards the provision of education in such a remote place, but also ensure that we as a school endeavour to strive towards sustainability.
