Inter-House Sporting Festival
Sporting fun and competition saw boys in Years 3-8 participate in three weeks of Inter-House Cricket, Athletics and Swimming. Pre-Prep boys also enjoyed an afternoon of races with their traditional egg and spoon, sack race and parachute games to round off a fantastic period of Inter-House sporting spirit, drama, and enthusiasm.
Enduring all that a typical UK summer can throw it’s way at Davenies, including high winds, rain, hail and floods, fun and purposeful sport was top of the agenda as each and every boy took part in Sports Day events. In the Prep School, it was “ready, set, go!” as boys tested their speed on the athletics track, their agility on the high and long jumps, and their strength in the vortex howler. The Leopards, Jaguars, Cheetahs and Panthers demonstrated their sporting prowess in the Pre-Prep, and, despite the rain, enjoyed a variety of challenges, culminating in the House obstacle race – always a favourite! Shackleton emerged as the overall winners of the Junior and Senior Athletics Trophy – well done to them!
The House Cricket competitions witnessed some nail-biting finishes across the age groups and in Swimming, Cook won the Junior competition and Drake the Senior event. In the latter, the whole competition came down to the very last race!
The weather, of course, did its utmost to disrupt, but Davenies boys’ resilience and perseverance shone through the darkest rain clouds, and all events contributed to a fantastic period of Inter-House competition. Boys were presented with medals in their year groups and are commended for the team-spirit, sportsmanship and comradery displayed when cheering for their peers.
