Multiple Wins in Haileybury Young Pianist and Strings Player of the Year
Davenies musicians hit the right notes in Haileybury’s Young Pianist and Strings Player of the Year 2021 competition, scooping four wins.
The competition, open to pianist and strings players from Years 4-8, with a maximum of ten entries per school, looks at pitch , tone, shape and performance, and musicians were invited to submit their entries virtually.
Of the 15 categories, Davenies entered nine performances and placed first in four, including piano Grade 4-5 (Matthew Costa D’Sa), cello Grade 4-5 (George Bridges), cello Grade 6+ (Thomas McLeish), and guitar Grade 1-3 (Sebastian Gemmell). A special mention also goes to Yogesh Patel who was awarded second place for violin Grade 1-3.
Haileybury’s Head of Voice and Choral Music said “Despite the current restrictions and watching all of the entries online, I felt a great connection and really appreciated the hard work and dedication involved.” He continued: “I felt they were so deserving and incredible entries.”
Congratulations to all nine boys who entered the competition; the future is certainly bright for music at Davenies.
