The Big Comeback – FoD Summer Picnic
The sounds of laughter and chatter filled the School grounds as the Davenies community came together, for the first time in over 18 months, in celebration for the “The Big Comeback”.
Adorned with picnic baskets, blankets and smiling faces, pupils, parents, Davenies staff, friends and families gathered on the Davenies sports pitches on a sunny Saturday at the start of the Autumn Term to finally come together on school grounds for a relaxed afternoon of socialising and fun. With plenty of games for the children to enjoy, raffle prizes to be won, delicious cakes, ice cream and treats galore to enjoy, as well as the opportunity to catch up with one another in person, it was clear to see that many had missed such interaction at school. The Sainsbury’s Gate, sports fixtures, performances, the summer fair and other events are, under usual circumstances, brimming with members of the Davenies community and the picnic was the first time in a very long time that parents, pupils, friends and families could gather together at school. Owing to restrictions limiting on site visitors, some of the School’s newer parents had only ever experienced the school site during an Open event or meeting, and so it was a welcome relief for them to finally experience the warmth of the School community, that is so unique to Davenies, first hand.
Organised by the Friends of Davenies (FoD), The Big Comeback was a fabulous opportunity to finally come together on school grounds in a relaxed manner for an afternoon of socialising and fun. Our thanks to the FoD for putting it all together.
