Year 4 Get Creative for ACE Day
Split into two halves, Year 4’s Alternative Curriculum Experience included a session in the Art Studio and one on the Romans with a History and Drama focus.
The dulcet tones of Michael Bublé filled the Studio, as Year 4 worked studiously on their ceramic Christmas tree sculptures. All boys were fully immersed in the workshop with energised focus and complete involvement, alongside a small festive treat to keep their spirits up. Although a little early to be kicking off the jolly season, the firing process is a two-month cycle and Mrs Newell was adamant to book in some fun in what is a challenging climate for all boys currently. This was a great way to kick start the Christmas festivities and a chance to create something that the boys can be proud of. Their beautiful creations will be on display at this year’s Art Exhibition in the Summer Term.
The History and Drama session really brought History to life as the boys became brave warriors and explore further what life as a Roman was like, with a visored Queen Boudicca taking them on an interactive and illuminating step back in time. Year 4 learnt about Roman culture, lifestyle and language by taking on the role of a soldier, complete with a self-made shield, or scutum as we now call it! Confucius’ quote that ‘I do and I understand’ was very much in practice and really enabled the boys to build on their understanding and interest of this fascinating topic.
