Lest We Forget, We Remember Together

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them…

On Remembrance Day, Monday 11 November, the School gathered in the PAC to remember those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Boys and staff paused for a moment of reflection to give thanks not only for those who have lost their life for our freedom but also to think about those who are subjected to war and the horrors that this brings still. As the School fell silent at 11:11am, so did Beaconsfield where, at the war memorial,  Year 4 boys from Davenies laid a wreath as a mark of Remembrance. Davenies was founded when the onset of World War II in 1939 led Mr and Mrs Petty, who owned a school in Northwood, Middlesex, to look for a safer area to educate their pupils. Ever since, Davenies boys have been encouraged to develop a strong sense of service, responsibility and community and occasions such as Remembrance serve as a poignant reminder of the service of others, for the greater good, and why we, too, should each strive for the good of all.
