Choral Competition Winners
Chamber Choir had the pleasure of taking part in the annual Choral Competition at Haileybury, where their rendition of ‘The Lark in the clear air’ hit all the right notes and earned them the top prep school spot!
The boys and staff were welcomed with a lovely meal, followed by master classes, rehearsals and performances from Haileybury’s own outstanding music scholars, before the day was concluded with the concert made of up prep school choirs. Adjudicated by William Fox, the Director of Music at St Albans Cathedral and the Musical Director of the St Albans Bach Choir, Davenies’ Chamber Choir performed the traditional ‘The Lark in the clear air’ arranged by Alexander L’Estrange, with the main solos sung by music scholars Charlie J and Finn L to great acclaim. The results were announced, and the boys and accompanying staff were thrilled to be awarded 1st place!
Afterwards, all of the schools celebrated the event by singing a selection of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the amazing technicolour Dreamcoat.
Of the result, Mr Pegden, our Head of Music said “I am so proud of all of their efforts when rehearsing for this wonderful event.”
Congratulations to all involved. A special thank you goes to Charlotte Priestley, Elizabeth Corbett, Tessa Suggett, Fiona Tong, and Joe Machin for all of their help for the day.
