Davenies School

A Buzz Around Davenies…

…as we Celebrate National Bee Day (just a few days early!).

Thursday 15th May saw the whole Davenies community celebrate ‘Bee Day’ and raise money for The Bee Friendly Trust. We spoke about the importance of bees to our ecosystem, why they are at risk, and what we can do to try to save them.

Boys enjoyed a whole range of activities about bees from exploring the maths behind a bee hive with tesselating shapes, writing bee-related poems, creating a bee mosaic and bee pebble painting, hearing from a real life bee keeper,  creating bee hotels and conducting a pollinators experiment. There was also an element of heathy competition running through the day with boys competing in a spelling bee and entering a bee themed photography competition – winners will be announced in assembly on Monday 19th May. We even enjoyed a pollinator friendly lunch!

Bees are an important symbol of Davenies and stems from the bee-keeping days of our original headteacher. Imagine if we had bees on site again one day?!
