Davenies and High March Duathlon

A stunning afternoon was matched with a high degree of determination and endeavour from all 42 competitors in this year’s mixed team, Duathlon event at with High March at Davenies.

High March girls and Davenies boys made up teams of six runners and riders to complete three age group races, Year 4, 5 and 6, that all started with a run, then went to bikes before returning to a run. Duathlon is certainly a test of endurance, but it also helps to know where you are going! Listening to key instructions and racing tips gave individuals an edge when it came to race time, as well as understanding how the gears on your bike work! There were some super-slick transition changes and some that needed more practice, but the spirit in which all teams competed was great to watch.

There were some very exciting finishes. In the Year 4 race, George D’Arcy was the overall winner, whilst in the team event Panthers beat Tigers, 33 to 45. In the Year 5 race, Cheetahs on 29 beat Pumas on 37 with the top spot going to Ben Cooper. Leopards on 54 were just one point clear of Jaguars who were ahead of Lynx in the overall team result, whilst Connor Batchelor crossed the finish line first after an impressive three lap bike phase.

Well done to all participants who were rewarded with chocolate medals.
