Fast and Fun U11 Biathlon

One of few sports that can go ahead uninterrupted by the weather, the U11 Biathlon Race (swim, then run) at St. Piran’s proved to be fast and fun!

Twelve ‘wanna-be’ biathletes from each school took to the pool to swim 100m (5 lengths) before heading into transition to put on shirt and trainers. The run course was a four lap, 1000m catch-me-if-you-can chase! Hosts, St. Piran’s, and local school Crown House ensured the competition was fair and friendly. Although ‘swimmers’ had the advantage on this sprint course, Team Davenies were well up for the chase after starting in waves on poolside. Our mixed team of Year 5s and 6s proved very competitive. From 36 runners, Matty McGinley (Year 5) was placed first overall and six others were top ten finishers including Freddie Harman, Cillian Evans, Jack Doughty, Finn Lennon, Arthur Rose and Zac Pratsides. Tristan Thorpe, Ben Cooper, William Cooper, Milo Boyle and Joshua Kirkham were not far behind, all finishing in the top 20 and only a few seconds separating them all.

An excellent team effort on a wet afternoon. ‘At least,’ said one participant, ‘we were wet anyway when we got out of the pool!’ Well done, everyone.
