Great Fire of London Day

On Thursday 12th March, the boys in Year 2 were transported back in time to 1666 for our exciting Great Fire of London Day. We were joined by the History Man, who treated us to a fantastic day full of fascinating facts and information about this important event in history.
During the morning, the boys learned all about what London was like in 1666. They explored what the houses looked like and how closely they were built together, helping them understand how the fire was able to spread so quickly throughout the city. They also discovered what people would have worn at the time, the types of weapons that were used, and what everyday life might have been like. The boys were particularly interested in hearing about the kings and queens of England and how they were connected to this period in history.
In the afternoon, the boys had the opportunity to get involved in a range of hands-on activities. They enjoyed playing with model London houses, dressing up in historical outfits and discussing which time period they would choose to live in if they had the option—either in 1666 or in the future in 2046. This sparked some wonderful discussions and imaginative thinking.
The final activity of the day was definitely a favourite. The boys became firefighters and learned about the equipment that would have been used to fight fires in 1666. They discovered how people worked together to try to stop the fire spreading and even had the chance to try using the equipment themselves.
It was a brilliant day of learning and fun, bringing history to life and helping the boys develop a deeper understanding of the Great Fire of London.
