Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Collaborative Castle Learning!

Following on from Year 1’s visit from the History Man for their Knight’s and Castles Day, 1W welcomed 6B into the Pre-Prep to further consolidate their learning on medieval history and castles.

For Year 6, visiting Year 1 as part of their learning on medieval history served as the perfect opportunity to evaluate their learning on a recent castle project, as part of their own learning on the Norman Conquest, which saw them design and build a castle based on the Normans. As such, they planned a location for each castle, built the castles then assessed the strengths and weaknesses of their designs. Having also leant about the different types of attack and defence methods during the Norman Conquest, boys evaluated how strong their castles were.

During the session, boys in 1W spent time moving around the different Year 6 groups learning about castle design and also had the opportunity to ask questions about each castle. There was wonderful collaborative learning from all and Year 6 were excellent role models to the Year 1 boys. There was certainly a buzz in the air and lots of wonderful enthusiasm.

Being a project and competition, well done to all as it was so clear how much effort had been put into the castles. The final results were as follows:

  1. James R
  2. Rohan A
  3. Harry F
  4. Charlie J and Tristan T
  5. Luca F

Well done to all boys for demonstrating the Davenies Code, as well as many attributes of what it means to be a Davenies Independent Learner!
