High March & Davenies Duathlon

The High March School Davenies, annual, mixed, Duathlon race proved to be as exciting, energetic and exhausting as ever as two mixed teams of six faced off in a field of 12 runners and riders for a Run-Bike-Run format that tested endurance, bike-ability, organisation and, not least, listening skills.

In Year 4, Panthers were narrowly beaten by Tigers on points, 35 to 43. Harriet Saunders smashed that race in an impressive effort to win by some margin. Monty Williams came in second ahead of Xander Arentz; both finishing strongly on the home straight. Matty McGinley for the Cheetah’s led the Year 5 race from start to finish with George D’Arcy coming in a gritty second and Zoe Bridges an heroic third. Cheetahs won that race 47 to 58. The Year 6 race was tight with Jaguars running out eventual winners over the Leopards 38 to 40. Full of running on a gruelling course were the winner, Ben Cooper, second place Annabel Saunders and third place, William Cooper.

This opportunity for the boys and girls to join as mixed teams to compete in a co-educational sense is just one example of how we work alongside girls’ schools to ensure that the boys have the chance to broaden their educational and social experience. Well done to all 36 participants for their efforts, determination and enthusiasm. A fantastic afternoon of racing; the chocolate medals were a well-deserved treat!
