Junior School Sports Day 2025
Cook Takes Victory in First Sports Day of the Year!
On the penultimate day of the last half term, our Year 3 and 4 pupils took to the track and field for the first of this year’s House Sports Day events. Despite a recent heatwave, the weather turned out to be cooler and more overcast than expected, perfect conditions for an afternoon of spirited competition.
The Junior School Sports Day introduces our Year 3 boys to a range of new events, including the Long Jump, High Jump, a variety of track races, and the ever-popular Vortex Throw. For the Year 4 boys, this marks their final opportunity to represent their House at the Junior level before moving on to the Senior Sports Day in Year 5 – making for a thrilling afternoon filled with passion and determination.
After the field events kicked things off, it was time for both House and individual races on the track. Boys earned points for their Houses during the “all-in” races (of which there are four), while also competing for both House and individual points in the other track events. Some of these races took place prior to the main day, but the majority were run during the afternoon itself. Every boy also took part in a sprint race, meaning there were plenty of points (and medals), up for grabs!
The excitement continued with the ever-chaotic Obstacle Course, the frantic water-tipping in Aquarius, and the tense moments of the ‘Hole in One’ House challenge – all of which made for brilliant entertainment and close contests. The individual events were just as exciting, showcasing impressive levels of determination, skill, and effort.
As always, times and distances were recorded in case any long-standing records were broken – and indeed, one was. Congratulations to Finley Thompson in Year 4, who set a new record in the 400m with an outstanding time of 1:15.15.
The Junior School Trophy, originally presented to Herons in 1948, was won this year by Cook, marking their third consecutive Junior School Sports Day victory; an impressive achievement.
The Victor Ludorum for Year 3 was awarded to Harrison Lunn, and in Year 4, the honour went to Finley Thompson. Full House results and top three Victor Ludorum places are listed below:
