Mr John Borns, 10 October 1951 – 6 January 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of former teacher at Davenies, Mr Peter “John” Borns, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday 6 January.  

Mr Borns spent a truly astonishing 39 years teaching at Davenies, an entire career-worth of service as a form teacher, PE teacher, History teacher, Geography teacher, Head of DT and games coach. Having only retired some 9 years ago, there are many current staff who worked with him and remember him fondly as a knowledgeable, kind and good-humoured colleague. Many parents will have known him as the quizmaster of the annual FoDs quiz, as recently as last academic year; and there will be a generation, or even two, of young men who benefitted from his guidance and instruction in the classroom and on the sports field.  

The thoughts of the whole school community are with his wife Sandra, who was also a former teacher at Davenies, and his daughter Olivia, at this sad time.
