Splashing Good Time at House Swimming
Over the course of a week each year group within each House had the chance to show off its skill and teamwork in the wettest and noisiest event of the Inter-House sporting calendar…
The swimming was, in part, sensational and wholly enjoyable as boys from Years 3-8 competed individually and together for the coveted prizes of the Junior and Senior House Swimming trophies, medals and Victor Ludorum Shields. Noodle, float, flipper, medley and freestyle House races mixed seamlessly with the Open events. In the Junior contest, Drake took top spot with Cook and Shackleton not far behind. Well done to the Open event winners in Year 3: Eliah Jairaj (Backstroke), Xander Arentz (Breaststroke), Monty Williams (Freestyle). Matty McGinley swept all before him with a full house of wins in the Year 4 races. Matty’s 20m Open Freestyle time of 12.91s is a new school record, beating Alex Moore’s 2016 record by 7/100s of a second! Congratulations to Matty and to Xander who came away with the respective Year 4 and Year 3 Victor Ludorum shields.
In the Senior competition, it was tight at the top; three points separated the podium places. No school records, but an array of determined and enthusiastic races saw Shackleton take an unassailable lead and Oliver Jones romp home to an impressive haul of five gold medals. Well done to all the Year 5, 6, 7 and 8 individual winners and particularly to the Victor Ludorum winners; Jack Doughty (Y5), Edward Whitby (Y6), Alexander Dalmahoy (Y7) and Oliver Jones (Y8).

Well done to those that swam so enthusiastically for their House. The ‘Big Splash’ lived up to its name with exciting, fun and, in some cases, exhausting races.
