Success at Prep Schools’ Lions Trials

Seven Davenies boys have been selected to represent England in the Gothia World Youth Cup as part of the 2023/2024 Development Squads.

Pupils in Years 6, 7 and 8 recently attended trials for a regional representative football team organised by the England Prep Schools’ Lions. Boys from over 80 different schools were nominated to take part in what was a tough weekend of matches and training.

The England Prep Schools’ Lions will take a combination of selected ‘A Squads’ and ‘Development Squads’ to 2024’s Gothia Cup. Selected pupils will also have the opportunity to play in warm up fixtures against other regional teams and enjoy a residential training camp over the Easter break. Following a successful day of trialling, we are thrilled to announce that the following boys have been selected for the ‘2023/2024 Development Squads’:

U11

Freddie Harman

Sebastian Gordon-Smith

Jack Doughty

George Cornelius

Finn Lennon (GK)

U12

Ben Ruddick

U13

Ishaan Sahota (GK)

In addition to the new crop of players selected, Jackson Cooper, Jasper Lindgren Southgate, James Hughes, Leonardo da Cunha and Joshua Rail will also be returning next year to the Gothia Cup with their squads from this summer.

Congratulations to all those selected.
