Wet Welly Award

It has been a really strong effort from the 2026 Year 8 class in Geography. The standard of fieldwork has been high, and it’s genuinely been difficult to separate a winner for the Wet Welly Award – which is always a good sign.

The Wet Welly Award is awarded to the pupil who has shown the most proficient investigative approach to Geography fieldwork: careful methodology, accurate data collection, thoughtful analysis, and well-justified conclusions.

This year we announced two runners-up:

Tristan T. Tristan demonstrated real precision in his data analysis – clear descriptive work, strong inferences, and, most importantly, he linked it back to the Geography to explain what the data actually meant. All in all, a well-crafted piece of work to be proud of.

Rohan A. One of the key ingredients of excellent fieldwork is methodology – and Rohan’s was outstanding. He clearly set out how comparative research could take place, and supported his methods with bespoke pictorial references, showing exactly how data was collected to ensure reliability and accuracy.

A special mention goes to several pupils whose work was particularly noteworthy: Ben S, Arthur R, Deo M, and Jack D. Excellent effort and really promising geographical thinking.

But the 2026 Wet Welly Award winner is Sam M. Sam produced a comprehensively completed fieldwork investigation: well-researched, carefully executed, and with strong inferences that led to appropriate, well-supported conclusions. He used thorough fluvial knowledge to explain the geography behind what he found – exactly what we’re looking for in top-level fieldwork.

Huge congratulations to Sam – and well done to Tristan, Rohan, and to the whole of Year 8 for such an impressive year of Geography fieldwork.
