Year 4 Football Continues to Thrive

Our U9 football teams took on The Beacon in a series of exciting fixtures in which determination and character shone through. Here, our Head of Sport, Mr Burrell, gives a run-down of the matches…

Team JB travelled away, fully aware they were in for a tough match. On a challenging pitch, Davenies looked to take control with some impressive passing, even involving their first-half goalkeeper, Daniel B, in their possession-based approach—his nerve-racking touches across the goal line keeping spectators on edge.

It was Davenies who struck first, as Jake B latched onto a long pass and drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Before the half was done, Jake doubled both his tally and Davenies’ lead, giving his side a comfortable two-goal cushion to defend as they faced an uphill challenge in the second half.

One of the highlights of our U8, U9, and U10 matches is the opportunity for players to experience a variety of positions, and Tuesday’s game was no exception. Oliver S took over in goal for the second half, while Adeep K and Krishan S formed a formidable defensive partnership. Meanwhile, the energy of Henry M, Cameron C, Jude D, and Daniel B in midfield ensured Davenies made a fast start after the break.

Despite a wave of Davenies attacks, a third goal remained elusive, and The Beacon capitalised on a quick counter-attack to halve the deficit. However, the team’s determination and character shone through as they refused to let this setback derail them. Further goals from Daniel B and Henry M, along with a hat-trick finish from Jake B, sealed a memorable and well-deserved 5-2 victory—spurred on by the unwavering support of the travelling Davenies crowd.

Elsewhere, Team AM played out a thrilling 5-4 contest at home, while Team LW also secured victory on home turf. Team OD fought hard for two well-earned draws, with Otto W finding the net after excellent work from Oliver R. Meanwhile, Team MA suffered a narrow defeat, though Freddie B stood out with his tenacious performance.

A huge well done to all involved!
