Year 8 Leavers’ Programme
During their last few weeks of term, Year 8 have thrown themselves into their Leavers’ Programme. A vast and dynamic programme of activities to top off their Davenies journey.
The aim of the programme is to reward the boys for all their hard work and for all they have given to the school community throughout their time in the Senior School. Our aim is that they will enjoy the final few weeks of schooling together in a relaxed, enjoyable and purposeful manner, allowing them to end their prep school careers on a high, having celebrated this important milestone.
The programme has been planned with the school’s vision at its heart – to engage, inspire and challenge. The range of opportunities will allow them to: work collaboratively in a range of ways, enjoy off-site trips and a residential week full of fun and challenge, as well as partake in tasks and activities that will help develop a range of important transferable skills and encourage a sense of service. In essence, it is an extension of DAS and will enhance and expand upon the programme of activities and experiences the boys have had over the past two years.
Their adventures kicked off this week with a treasure hunt (against the clock!) around London. Split into groups, with a staff member per group, the boys had to tick as many landmarks off their list as possible – navigating London on their own and making group decisions about the best way to get around. They had to visit/find a range of landmarks including a sports ground, a museum, Buckingham Palace, and the Houses of Parliament to name a few. It was a hugely successful day, with some groups making wiser decisions than others. Mr Thomas joined one group, and they walked 17,000 in their adventure!
