Davenies School

New Headmaster Joins the Davenies Community

It’s the start of a new academic year and we are delighted to welcome our new Headmaster, Mr Alastair Thomas, into the Davenies fold.

Mr Thomas was educated at Felsted School before moving to London to read French at King’ College London. Following a brief stint at the John Lewis Partnership, he began his teaching career at Kingshott Prep School in Hertfordshire. Following this, Mr Thomas moved to Herefordshire (for the first time) to take up the position of Head of French and Latin at The Downs in Colwall. An academic deputy headship followed at Lambrook School before he was appointed to his first headship at The Elms School, also in Colwall! After seven and a half years, Mr Thomas moved back towards the South East as Head of The Manor Preparatory School in Abingdon at the end of 2017, where he remained until joining us at Davenies.

On his first day, Mr Thomas said: “As a new boy myself, it is extremely exciting to be getting ready to meet you all over the days and weeks ahead. One of the many things that has stood out for me over the course of the last year while visiting the school is the adherence that everyone has to the Davenies Code. This resonates strongly with me and I am sure that kindness, honesty, politeness, thoughtfulness and respect are qualities that we all admire and which underpin an outstanding experience for our Davenies community.”

Away from school life, Mr Thomas’s main interests lie in sport, particularly Cricket, Rugby, Golf, Tennis and Skiing. He is also very interested in music and (attempts to) play the saxophone, flute and double bass. Mr Thomas is Davenies’ seventh Headmaster.
