A Day of Discovery at Winchester Science Museum
Our Year 2 boys had an exciting and educational trip to Winchester Science Museum where they experienced a day full of discoveries…
The first stop was the planetarium, where Year 2 were treated to an incredible show. The boys were thrilled to see constellations come to life on the huge dome screen, learning how these star patterns are formed and what they represent. They also got an up-close look at each of the planets, with fascinating facts shared by the presenter. The boys impressed with their enthusiasm and knowledge, eagerly answering questions and demonstrating how much they already knew about space! Following the planetarium show, the boys were invited to ask any questions they had, and their curiosity was on full display. They asked thoughtful questions, eager to learn more about the mysteries of space.
Before lunch, Year 2 explored the downstairs area of the museum, which featured interactive exhibits focused on space. The boys got to experience hands-on activities like testing the weight of objects on different planets, trying on an astronaut costume, and experimenting with many more engaging space-related displays. After lunch, the boys continued their exploration upstairs. Here, they encountered even more science activities, from sound experiments to discovering the properties of different liquids, building with LEGO, and much more. Each exhibit offered new ways to learn through play, and the boys dove in enthusiastically.
The final activity of the day was a workshop on ‘Light’ and the science behind it. Here, the boys learned about different wavelengths of light, discovering how visible light is composed of various colours. They enjoyed the practical side of the workshop, especially trying on light spectrum glasses to see colours in a whole new way!
It was a fantastic day of learning and fun at Winchester Science Museum, and the boys represented Davenies brilliantly with their curiosity, engagement, and excellent behaviour throughout the trip.
