Super Sunday for U11 Cross-Country Runners

Sunday 2 March saw four of our Year 6 pupils travel to Malvern College for the U11 National Prep Schools Cross-Country event. This prestigious competition brings together teams of young runners from across the country to tackle a challenging 2.8km course featuring steep inclines, undulating surfaces, and a congested track—all in pursuit of both individual and team glory.

The Davenies team, made up of Cillian E, Arthur R, Joshua K, and Louis M, arrived in high spirits, ready to take on the challenge. With the stunning Malvern Hills as a backdrop and glorious sunshine replacing the heavy rain from earlier in the week, conditions were near perfect for racing. After walking the track, warming up, and watching the U11 girls’ race unfold, our boys lined up alongside 210 competitors in a fiercely contested event. They navigated the hustle and bustle of the crowded start brilliantly, avoiding collisions and settling into strong positions in the middle of the pack. In a high-class field, keeping pace with the front runners was always going to be a tough ask, but our boys gave it their all from start to finish.

Joshua K was the first Davenies runner to cross the line with an impressive time of 11:52, followed by Cillian E in 12:10, Arthur R in 12:18, and Louis M in 12:44. A monumental effort from all four runners, who did themselves and the School proud.

The Cross-Country action will next see a squad travel to the Oratory Prep for an inter-schools event.
