Jennifer Killick Author Visit
We have kicked off the National Year of Reading with enthusiasm here at Davenies, with a ‘Whole School Read’.
Engaging with the national theme of ‘Go All In’, every form from Year 3 to Year 8 enjoyed Jennifer Killick’s hilarious horror story ‘Dreadwood’. Form teachers took the lead and read to the boys every day. It was wonderful to see the boys absorbed in the story, hear them chatting about the latest chapter, and to be reminded of the joy of stories and the pleasure of reading.
Building further on the ‘Dreadwood’ excitement, we welcomed the author, Jennifer Killick, on Friday 27th February. She had a funny and interactive discussions with the boys about the power of stories and characters, as well as discussing her path to becoming a published author. Our Year 7 boys enjoyed a workshop based around idea generation and planning for suspense and horror stories through completing a variety of tasks. The sessions finished with a book signing, during which each boy also had the chance to engage in a personal conversation with Jennifer.
A fantastic celebration of stories, shared reading, and the joy of books!
