Bee Day 2026!

Davenies was a real colony of activity as the school came together to celebrate Bee Day. The day was full of enthusiasm, creativity and learning, with pupils and staff taking part in a wide range of bee-themed activities.

We are delighted to share that, thanks to the generosity of the Davenies community, we reached our target of £250 in donations for WWF-UK. This is especially fitting as we marked the 100th birthday year of Sir David Attenborough, who has supported WWF for many years. Davenies will also be donating to the Chalfont Beekeepers’ Society.

The day began with the preliminary round of our Spelling Bee, before pupils represented their Houses in the head-to-head finals later in the day. Very well done to all boys who made it through to the second round, and a huge congratulations to the winners in each year group. It was a fantastic achievement, and the standard of spelling was extremely impressive.

We were also delighted to welcome Lizzie Archer from Thomas Franks, who spoke to pupils about “farm to fork” and the vital role bees play in pollination and food production. In addition, Mr Townsend gave fascinating beekeeping presentations to pupils across the school, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm in great depth. Pupils also enjoyed taste-testing an eclectic mix of honeys, which quite literally went down a treat!

With prizes for Best Dressed Bee and the Photography Competition, the school certainly was a buzz of excitement!

A huge thank you to everyone who dressed up, donated, took part, helped organise the day or supported the activities. It was a wonderful celebration of bees, biodiversity and the importance of protecting the natural world.
