Senior Society Talk with Live TV Director

Boys in Years 7 and 8, as part of their Davenies Award Scheme enrichment programme, were treated to an excellent Senior Society talk from ex-Davenies parent and passionate member of the filming industry, Neville Smith.

Mr Smith spoke to the boys about his 40-year career as a director of live tv sports coverage, specialising in rugby, and kept the boys hooked to his talk by giving them an understanding of what goes on behind the scenes, emphasising the excitement of his job with tales of last second championship-deciding decisions from the Super League Grand Final. Clearly passionate about his career, Mr Smith’s love of camerawork has been passed down to his son Lachlan (an Old Davenian) who is also budding film director and works alongside his father.

After hearing what Mr Smith had to say, the boys certainly left with a different outlook on filming!
