Inter-House Cross Country

This year’s Inter-House Cross Country was played out under bright, chilly skies; a welcome relief from the frozen wastelands of a week ago!

All races were competitive and the House spirit for which these events are renowned was alive and fervent. The course conditions were ideal, producing some fast times and several close, closing-stage finishes. Preparation was key – well fitting, comfortable footwear and minimal top layers (after an appropriate warm-up) worked best. Races for Years 3, 4 and 5 took place on Davenies’ Fields with many boys finishing strongly and completing the ‘no walking’ challenge. Setting off too quickly did impact the latter part of the race for some, whilst others had paced their race well and were able to overtake tiring finishers on the home straight. The senior races for Years 6, 7 and 8 started at St. Mary’s and finished at Davenies. Although flat, the length of the course (approximately 2 – 2.5k) stretched the Field to allow the front runners to showcase their talent and all finishers to demonstrate their good efforts, resilience and House spirit.

Congratulations to the individual medal winners, to Shackleton who won the overall Senior Cross Country trophy and to Drake who won the overall Junior Cross Country trophy.
