Lunchtime Concert Rocks!

Featuring the debut performance from Rock Band, our Lent Term Lunchtime Concert series started in style and showcased another superb array of talent at Davenies.

The first item in the programme was the much-anticipated performance from Rock Band. Led by Mr Sculpher, this group consisted of George (Year 5) on vocals, Henry (Year 7) on drums and Frank (also Year 7) on guitar, and their performance was well worth the wait! It was an exciting medley of three songs chosen by the boys and performed to a very high standard. Next, we had two Year 4 boys: William (4RW) singing a charming performance of ‘Orange and Yellow and Brown’ by Lin Marsh followed by an assured rendition of ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ by Hans Zimmer, played on the guitar by Ben (4RW). Eliah (Year 2) delighted us all with his violin playing, and we enjoyed some beautiful performances on piano, guitar and voice from the following Year 3 boys: Dhruv, Keyaan and Jonathan, Milo, Neil,  Mohammed-Ali.

Year 5 boys also hit all the right notes, as Shayan sang ‘Earth, Sea and Sky’ by Lin Marsh superbly, and followed by Ashwin’s exciting rendition of Django (Dezaire) on the violin. Sebastian was up next on piano,  with a lovely performance of ‘Le Chant du patre’ by Simone Ple, and then Tom played a moving rendition of ‘Castle on a cloud’ by C. Schonberg on the violin. Other enjoyable performances followed from George Hooker (guitar), Nicholas Craggs (piano) and Alex Warby (voice).

From the Senior School boys, we had a wonderful performance of ‘Gavotte in G’ by G.F Handel, played on the piano by Ethan (Year 7) and William (Year 8), who ended the Concert with a stylish guitar rendition of ‘Spanish Knights’ by Longworth / Walker.

Thank you very much to all the boys who performed so fabulously, to all their parents for their unstinting support of Music at Davenies, to all the peripatetic staff for preparing, supporting and accompanying their pupils for this concert, to all the other school staff who helped with the concert logistics, and to the wonderful Year 8 helpers who made sure the concert ran smoothly on the day.
