Primary Schools Cricket Festival

Ten teams took to the rather damp playing fields of Davenies for this year’s Primary Schools Cricket Festival and, undeterred by the intermittent drizzle, played some high tempo, high quality and occasionally high-pitched softball cricket.

Each Year 4 team played four games in their brightly coloured t-shirts, playing 6-a-side rules with plenty of brilliant boundaries, bowling and catches to get the crowd on their feet! True to the Davenies Language of Learning, a team of enthusiastic Davenies boys stepped in at the last minute to take the place of a team that could not attend; in typical Davenies’ spirit, they stepped in without fuss, played some great cricket showing good sportsmanship throughout. All teams enjoyed the afternoon that concluded with a presentation of certificates and well-earned hot-dogs and doughnuts.

Our current Head of Sport, Mr Thomas, signed off his tenure in charge of organising Primary Schools events by thanking all the boys and girls for their enthusiasm and the visiting teachers for getting their teams together and contributing towards the fun, purposeful and relaxed atmosphere of the afternoon. Several schools in attendance have been coming to Davenies since the very first ‘Superstars’ event back in 2007!
