School Council – an outstanding Leadership Opportunity
Monday lunchtime saw this term’s School Council reps meet to discuss their ideas for how the student body could collectively bring about positive change to our wonderful school.
The meeting was expertly chaired by our Head Boy, Harris, and minuted by Mr Cooke and together they discussed everyone’s ideas – why they might or might not work, how slight tweaks to ideas could make them even better and which to take forward as action points ahead of the next meeting.
School Council is made up of class representatives from Year 3 – 8 and each rep had the opportunity to voice their thoughts to their peers in an open and supportive environment. Everyone listened to each other respectfully. This role provides a fantastic leadership opportunity for boys and allows them to feel empowered to voice their opinions. We heard a wide range of ideas including changes to device policies, the introduction of a school pet, different co-curricular clubs they’d like to try, what games can be played at break and lunch to name a few. Maybe most importantly, one of our Year 3 reps would like to see the annual Easter Egg Hunt for boys across the school not just those in Pre-Prep!
As a school, we place great value on the suggestions made by our School Council – these are the people who live the Davenies code, and in bring it to life in the most wonderful way, and so their thoughts on how to make Davenies even better are very important. It is important for the young people we are educating to have a positive voice and feel heard – ultimately, a happy student is a successful student!
