DAS Trip – A Memorable Day at The Oval

On Saturday 26th April, a group of our senior pupils enjoyed the first DAS trip of the new term — a visit to The Oval to watch Day 2 of the County Championship fixture between Surrey and Somerset.

Despite some uncertain weather forecasts earlier in the week, the sun shone brightly, providing perfect conditions for a day of top-class cricket. The pupils were treated to an exciting display, with Surrey posting close to 300 runs — Rory Burns leading the charge with a composed 76.

The County Championship often provides a more relaxed atmosphere, and this trip made the most of it. From getting up close to the action and exploring the magnificent stadium, to spotting a few cricketing stars and collecting autographs, the experience was full of memorable moments. A particular highlight was watching from the stunning vantage point atop the JM Finn Stand, where the boys took in the game with enthusiasm and awe.

Trips to the cricket are always a standout in the calendar, and this visit was no exception. Inspired by the professionals, our pupils returned brimming with excitement and will no doubt be looking to replicate some of the skills they saw out in the middle during their own Davenies fixtures this term.

DAS – Davenies Award Scheme is a bespoke programme offering Year 7 and 8 boys the opportunity to be involved with a diverse range of activities outside of school.
