This year, Henry (Year 4) was fortunate to take to the helm and see what life in the day of a Headmaster is like. Here, he tells us about his experience…
My day started with Gate Duty, which was funny because all my friends were confused that I was wearing something different to my school clothes and I was the first one there when they came in the gate.
I went to Pre-Prep Reward Assembly where I saw my brother and gave the awards out to some of my brothers friends.
With Mr Wilcox the Facilities Manager, I had a tour about how to look after the school and had a look at the field and the Astro, the Pre-Prep playground and the Jubilee Building which was the newest building and was built in 2015.
I met with the Deputy Head Boy, Oliver Jones. We talked about if there was anything we needed to know about, and do the boys seem happy. Ollie said that all was good.
I then met with Mr Cooke, the Deputy Headmaster to talk about the Davenies Code. We concentrated on kindness.
I helped Mr Rycroft prepare for Monday’s whole school assembly. I had to make two long spoons from metre rules, teaspoons and Sellotape.
My next task was to read to 1T. I read a book called Bears on the Stairs; the boys enjoyed the story and so did I!
I went to watch a bit of one of the U10 cricket matches and filmed some videos and photos for marketing and social media.
I then had to write this newsletter article, and I finished the day at the Sainsbury’s Gate saying goodbye to the pupils and wishing them a good weekend. I enjoyed shaking hands with the Pre-Prep boys as they left school for the day.
I had a brilliant day. I was a bit nervous to start with, but being Headmaster for the day made me very happy. Being Headmaster is a very responsible job, you need to be able to talk to different people, understand lots of different things and be encouraging. Reading to 1T was my favourite part of the day, the boys were focused and listening and I felt that I was being responsible.
