Junior School Sports Day 2023
The heat was on for Junior School Sports Day 2023, with fierce, fast and frienly Inter-House competition as the boys took the track and field.
Following their chosen field event, that included tense climaxes to both the High Jump events, the boys took to the track to complete three House relays. ‘Run, Shoot and Leave’ offered the participants a tantalising choice between a safe drop for less points or a high risk throw for more points or nothing! ‘Aquarius’ was a close run, soggy-for-some relay with boys racing to fill buckets to the brim. It is fair to say that not all the shooting was as careful as it might have been – thank you to the Year 6 boys for being such good sports! The obstacle course had its usual ups and downs; a barrel roll, an over-under-over rope barrier, run the gauntlet and a parachute dive. Ultimately teamwork and some precision throwing determined the finishing places.
The graded sprint finals were tight and quick with some excellent times recorded over 75m (Year 3) and 100m (Year 4). The Year 4, 400m race was very exciting. Well done to all the runners for their tactical, determined racing and brilliant finishes up the home straight.
The 4 x 75m House relays and the whole House, 25m, Shuttle Relay brought a fitting end to the afternoon’s sporting activities.
The presentation and well-deserved tea for all boys and spectators followed. Huge congratulations to all of Year 3 and Year 4 who entered into the spirit of the afternoon with characteristic energy, enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. Well done to Cook House who retained the trophy for the third year running!
